A Letter from Nicaragua's Tourism Minister Mario Salinas Pasos.

Minister Mario Salinas Pasos"I invite you and your clients to come to Nicaragua and experience the warm and friendly people, vibrant culture, and the amazing adventure travel. Nicaragua is beginning to be discovered as a travel destination, with over one million tourists per year. Our motto is "Nicaragua: Unique, Original" because here you can find everything and our diversity makes visiting Nicaragua an experience like none other. We are one of the top five surf destinations in the world, have top beaches and golf courses, and one-of-a-kind fishing in our lakes and rivers. Tourism here is distinctive, but also sustainable and respectful of our country's environment, which is important for us and our place in the world."

Central America's Largest and Safest Country, Nicaragua, is a Hot Travel Destination for 2012.

Nicaragua saw strong growth in tourism during 2011, and with more than one fourth of Nicaragua's visitors coming from North America, the Nicaraguan Tourism Board, has launched a new English language website that provides up-to-date tour and travel information. To meet the demand, U.S. airlines have been increasing flights to the country. American Airlines now has three non-stops daily flights from Miami to Managua.

Green Season

Nicaragua has seen increased tourism for several reasons:

  • The government has been stable and democratic for more than 30 years.
  • The country offers a wealth of memorable experiences for lovers of nature, adventure, active sports, beaches, history and culture – of all ages.
  • Tours, accommodations, food, activities and transportation are affordably priced.
  • Nicaragua is only a two- to three-hour flight from Miami, Atlanta and Houston, and no visas are required.
  • Nicaragua has been deemed the safest country in Central America by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The country of Nicaragua is set against a backdrop of dazzling colonial architecture, spectacular volcanoes, lakes, rainforest, and pristine beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. In a country that remains 80% undeveloped, travelers can enjoy some of world's best:

  • Ecotourism
  • Adventure tourism
  • Surfing
  • Fishing
  • Kayaking
  • Diving untouched reefs
  • Zip-lining through forest canopy
  • Volcano ash-boarding
  • Discovering historical and agricultural sites
  • Volunteerism
  • Nightlife

What the Press Are Saying About Nicaragua

What people are saying spacer "Nicaragua has reinvented itself as the next great eco-destination. Not only has it become the second-safest country in Central America…but it's a bargain. As a friend put it, 'You can live like a king for less than $100 a day.'"
-Jen Murphy, Food & Wine, December 2011

"The country has all the classic flora and fauna that lures visitors to the tropics, yet Nicaragua is much more than nature, it's also culturally rich and it offers some of the best cuisine in Central America…. Today's green accommodations are just as stunning as some of North America's five-star resorts, and have the added benefit of being located amid some beguiling natural surroundings."
-Michelle Hopkins, Calgary Herald, November 2011

"It is the country's bevy of new lodgings that is increasingly providing reason alone to head for what people are calling "the new ." And price-wise, there's no time like now.
-Carla Hunt, Recommend, August 2011
