Nicaragua will build the Punta Huete International Airport

On February 9th, the National Assembly approved two credit agreements to finance the project for the reconstruction, expansion, and modernization of the Punta Huete International Airport. The credits total more than 14.5 billion córdobas (2,874,652,142.91 yuan).

The airport terminal “will have the capacity to serve up to 3.5 million passengers annually… It will reduce the number of air connections between Nicaragua and Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania, making our country an attractive destination for tourists from these continents.”

The agreements were signed between the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, through the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, and China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd, from the People’s Republic of China.

In statements collected by El 19 Digital, the president of the Production, Economy, and Budget Commission of the Legislative Power, Wálmaro Gutiérrez, said that once this project is completed, “Nicaragua will make a leap in the quality of international airport service, both in the increase of air traffic and in the transportation of cargo and passengers. Additionally, this will have a multiplier effect on international private investments, as well as in the better development of the national economy, tourism, road infrastructure, and much more.”
